As each player arrives give them a 'Story so far' scene setter and a blank answer form. You will have nominated (or chosen at random by picking the name tags out of a hat) the 'suspects'. Issue each one with the 'Suspects briefing' sheet, (and the story so far if they also wish to play the game)

Handy Hints:
Sit them at various positions around your venue. They must wear their suspect's nametags so the players know who they are.

Once the players have read the 'Story so far' they can then go to the suspects and ask them their connections with the victim. The suspects read verbatim the suspects briefing sheets to the players as they arrive (alternatively they can hand them the sheet to read, or you can pin them up on the wall).

After a short period (say half an hour), open the first sealed envelope and reveal the first clue (there will be four copies which you should pin up on the wall). Alternatively, a 'police runner' can arrive with a new clue. Then after another half hour or so open the next clue and pin it up on the wall next to the first clue. Keep following this routine until all the clues are revealed.

After every player has had time to see all the clues, announce that the police are about to arrive to make an arrest. But, before they arrive, ask: did anyone get the right answer/s. Collect the players answer sheets. You may find that only a few players have got the right answer, so it is easy to mark.

If many players have the correct answer, you can go through the answer sheet evaluating the motives and evidence as a tiebreaker to select a winner. You can then announce the murderer, or make more of it by arresting the suspect. You can then hand out any prizes to the winners.
