of events
The main reasons why companies sponsor events,
or individuals are:
1) Increased consumer awareness of the Company
or the product.
2) Improved public image and attitude towards
the Company or product.
3) Improved relationships with employees,
suppliers, and an increase in sales.
4) Individuals' good nature, wishing to support
their local / favorite clubs or charities.
If you decide to look for a sponsor to support your local sports
team, then before approaching likely companies, THINK what they
are likely to get out of it. It's no good approaching a company
that makes products aimed at women and expect them to sponsor the
cricket team. Whereas the local pub, garage or sports shop may be
really interested.
Allow plenty of time. Most companies will be far more likely to
consider sponsoring an event or club if they have plenty of warning,
so that they can budget for the extra costs.
Make sure that you have someone responsible for the sponsor, in
order to keep them informed of all the activities and resulting
publicity. They need to know how the sponsorship is working. Invite
your sponsor to all your events. They will spend money and you can
thank them publicly.
